Psalms For The Seasons

A Psalm for Advent

Who shall ascend the hill of the lord?
And who chall stand in God's holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
Who do not set their minds on falsehood,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek the Lord,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the Ruler of glory may come in.
Who is the Ruler of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
The Lord, mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the Ruler of glory may come in.
Who is the Ruler of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
the Lord is the Ruler of glory!

Psalm 24:3-10

A Psalm For Christmastime

O sing to the Lord a new song,
for the Lord has done marvelous things!
God's right hand and holy arm
have gotten the victory,
The Lord has declared victory,
and has revealed vindication in the sight
of the nations
The Lord has remembered seatfast love
and failthfulness
to the house of Israel
All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our God
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody!
With trupets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the Ruler, the Lord!

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the word and those who dwell in it!
Let the floods clap their hands;
let the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord,
Who comes to judge the earth.
The Lord will judge the world with
its righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.

Psalm 98

A Psalm For Lent

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
According to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
For i know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you only, I have sinned,
and done that which is evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence
and blameless in your judgment.
Indeed, I was born into iniquity,
and i have been sinful
since my mother conceived me.

Surely, you desire truth in the inward being;
therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow;
Let me hear with joy and gladness;
let the bones which you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.

Created in me a clean heart, O God,
And put me and right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
And take not your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
And sustain in me a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
And sinners with return to you.

Psalm 51:3-15

A Psalm For Eastertime

O give thanks for the Lord, who is good;
whose steadfast love endures forever!
Let Israel say,
"God's steadfast love endures forever."
Let the house of Aaron say,
"God's steadfast love endures forever."
Let those who fear the Lord say,
"God's steadfast love endures forever."

I was pushed hard, so that I was falling,
but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my power;
the Lord has become my salvation.
There are joyous songs of victory
in the tents of the righteous:
"The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
the right hand of the Lord is exalted,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!"
I shall not die, but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of the Lord.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day which the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Save is, we beseech you, O Lord!
O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name
of the Lord!
we bless you from the house of the Lord.
The Lord is God,
we has given us light.
Lead the festal procression with breanches,
up to the horns of the altar!
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God, I will extol you.
O give thanks to the Lord, who is good;
for God's steadfast love endures forever!

A Psalm For Pentecost

Bless the Lord, O My soul!
O Lord my God, you are very great!
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
and wrapped in light as with a garment;
You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
and lay the beams of your chambers
on the waters;
You make the clouds your chariot,
and ride on the wings of the wind;
You make the wings of messengers,
fire and flame your ministers.
You set the earth on its foundations,
so that it shall never be shaken.
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
the waters stood above the mountains.
At your rebuke they fled;
at the sound of your thunder
they fled in terror.
They rose up to the mountains,
ran down to the valleys,
to the place which you appointed for them.
You set a boundary which they cannot pass,
so that they might not again cover the earth.

You cause the grass to grow for cattle,
and plants for people to use,
to bring forth food from the earth,
Wine to gladded the human heart,
oil to make the face shine,
and bread to strengthen the human heart.
The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
the cedars of Lebanon that God planted.

These all look to you,
to give them their food in due season.
When you give it to them, they gather it.
when you open your hand, they are filled
with good things
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die
and return to their dust.
When you send forth your spirit, they
are created;
and you renew the face of the earth.
